Registration of new plant varieties and plant breeder’s rights

Last updated: 2020-12-09

In order for seed of a plant variety to be certified and sold, it must be included in a variety list.

There are different requirements for registration depending on whether it is a common variety of vegetable, agricultural or fruitplants, or whether it is an amateur variety, conservation variety or a fruitplant variety that is registered with an officially recognised description.

A new plant variety can be protected with a European or Swedish plant breeder’s right. A European plant breeder’s right can be obtained from the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO).

Search the Swedish variety list and register plant varieties and plant breeder’s rights in the Swedish Board of Agriculture’s e-services.
