New regulations for restaurants, cafes and bars

If you run a serving business, for example a restaurant, a cafe or a bar, new regulations from the Public Health Agency (Folkhälsomyndigheten) will help to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. With the new regulations you can continue to run your business and receive guests as safely as possible.

The new regulations mean that you must take action to ensure the following:
 
  • Congestion in the premises should be avoided and visitors must be able to keep at a distance from each other. For example, long queues or crowds at tables and bar counters must not exist.
  • The tables should be spread out to bring down the number of visitors in the room.
  • No standing guests should be allowed, everyone must have a seat. Serving to standing guests at the bar counter is not allowed.
  • Only table service or take away is allowed.
 
The new rules apply to all serving businesses throughout the country.
 
As an entrepreneur, you are responsible for adapting your routines to minimise the risk of disease transmission. You should make regular risk assessments on the basis of the recommendations from the Public Health Agency and Communicable Diseases Officers. If your venue does not meet the requirements, the Communicable Diseases Officer can, in consultation with the municipality, order the venue to be closed.
 
The new regulations have been issued supported by the Communicable Diseases Act. It was published as of 25 March 2020 and lasts, at the most, until 31 December 2020.
